Portrait and fine art photographer, Scott Nichol is 40 years old, from Lehigh Valley, PA, USA.

With a clear preference for BW and outdoor shots, that I share, I find his work, in his studio as outside, in grey tones as coloured ones, absolutely wonderful. You'll feel in all his art pictures the emotion, the beauty and the strength of a true lover of the female human form. His gallery is full of inspired shots, where his always splendid models take elegant poses in exquisite natural landscapes.

" Photography has been a life-long passion of mine. I started out by building a darkroom, and learned how to make a fine print by reading Ansel Adams' outstanding technical books and using lots of nasty smelling chemicals ! Now the whole process is much more refined, completely digital and the results are often much better than I could have ever produced in the darkroom.

My work is highly personal and somewhat intimate. My portrait work is a humble attempt to capture the beautiful nature of the human form on a very personal level.

I have a studio based out of my home and specialize in a fine art style of portrait and figure photography. I usually work in black and white, it is my specialty.





His "Tattoo Fine Art Project" :








Currently, I'm going to be collaborating on a project with a local tattoo artist on a project that will attempt to capture the intimate personalities of people with tattoos who love them, hate them, want to get rid of one, need to fix one.

My role will be to photograph the people who will ultimately make up the meat of this project. Some of the photos will be highly personal portraits, others might be candid shots at a local parlor. There are a lot of possibilities between there and that lay out around the fringes.

Johannes Schwab, like Andrew Kaiser, Peter Checksfield and Woodeye or Brian Mackey, is one of these photographers who loves to capture the essence of "natural" woman.

Simply, truly, softly, far from the sophisticated ladies of our glossy magazines, he shots with passion these women that some people wrongly call "the girl next door", because there are no "girls next door", each human being is unique in the all known and unknown universe :

" As a photographer in the areas of people, portrait and nude for german and international magazines, I'm in search of unusual faces."

Curiously, in view of his great talent and his so original style, I didn't find many informations about him, even on his official site, except is 38 years old and lives in Berlin. That's a little short, for sure, but we'll discover him as soon as he'll reply to my questions.

"The Road less Traveled..."

From Pinup and vintage work to "risky" outdoors pictures, from creative BW to very colorful shots and documentary movies, the range of styles and experiences of Michael Siu is very wide. And the results are majestic.

What I like : his deep respect for the models, his commitment during the Katrina devastation, his inexhaustible curiosity, his consuming passion... And his kindness. All these qualities which makes a normal human being a true artist.

"I had this concept on my list and Carly suggested she should have a chess set. I felt Carly was the dominant piece(Queen) and I matched the hair(Black) with the piece. I felt SarahLiz was at her mercy so the white pawn was her personified."

Michael Siu is an accomplished photographer and documentary filmmaker from New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, that has been shooting Black and White since 1994 and digital since 2000.

He graduated from UNO in 1993 with a degree in business finance and because of an art photography class took up a serious fascination with Photography and Video.

"Anyone who has modeled with me, knows that I have a passion for location work. Shooting nudes in the studio is good work but location nudes always trumps studio anytime. The extra element of location adds multiple layers of interaction, risk, architecture, and environment."

He has been featured in New Orleans Citibusiness, Times Picayune, Biz Magazine, Kingfish Magazine, CNN, Delta Sky Magazine, and he's currently working on two Fine Art books and exhibitions (this week-end) : Definitions of Women (a nude figure study) and New Orleans Pinups. " As a resident of New Orleans and a leader in business in New Orleans I found myself caught in the middle of the Katrina devastation.

I watched the storm from the center of the city, immediately after watched the looting and lawlessness that occurred uptown.

I photographed homes uptown in the few days after the storm and emailed hundreds of photos to people who desperately wanted accurate information on the status of their home.

I launched a website to directly help the victims and people who I saw were left out of the help from FEMA and the Red Cross, those that were caught in the middle of this devastation. We have received numerous donations and helped many families."

A model asked me : " What do you like to do other than photography?"

I was initially dumbfounded. I like to take pictures.

Where ever I go, whatever I do, I like to capture images. At the time I couldn't give her a good answer other than photography.

I thought about it recently hoping my life isn't relegated to just taking pictures and working.

Movies ! I really like to watch movies. Every Tuesday, I buy the latest Blu-ray movies and I watch them at home. Yes I have amassed quite a collection of movies. I am completely caught up in them and my focus is absolute. Don't bother having a conversation with me during a movie. I like characters, cinematography, a great story, and great acting performances. That's what I really like to do other than photography."

Jason Tag is a photographer I couldn't miss. Not only because of his tribute to the feminine forms in outstanding natural settings, or his deep respect for his models or his confirmed talent... Jason Tag is more than that : a man shooting for peace and harmony in a violent world.

In the beginnings of my researchs about his work, I was immediatly attracted by the strength of his compositions. His interpretation of space and light makes his images a lesson in grace. Then, reading him carefully, I've discovered a sensitive, engaged, modest and very kind artist. Someone who keeps his eyes wide open, disregarding conventions and trying to make his best to change our lifes. I love that. You know it.

Watch his work, read him, take the time for, then, as he says : " go out into woods, breathe the air, hear the birds, and just walk among the trees."

My photography is about beauty. Plain and simple. I try not to define myself as an artistic nudes photographer or a glamour nudes photographer because I don't feel right locking myself into one just one mode. If I feel inspired by a model to shoot glamour nudes then that is what we shoot.

I find a great deal of freedom exists in being nude, the sense of peace that I feel when I'm shooting a nude model or when I'm nude myself, the sense of being connected to the earth, without any interference from the cloth that binds us. It is through being nude that we learn who we really are.

I have always been amazed and impressed by the ability of photographers to capture the world around us in unique, engaging, and interesting ways.

When I first started I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do or how to really do it. I guess what I’m trying to say is that my concept of the artistic nude has changed, and my concept of my work has changed. Of course it’s still not easy to define.
But what I have found is that I now feel like I’m starting to understand my voice in this medium and I’m starting get a clearer picture of where this is going.

It seems that the work is shaping up to be about the connection between the natural world and ourselves.

I think it’s happened this way because of my need to connect with nature.

I spend 99.99999% of my life in the city, surrounded by concrete and tall buildings. I sit at a desk for 8 hours a day in a humidity controlled box. So it’s nice to go out into woods every once in a while. Breathe the air, hearing the birds in the trees, and just walking among the trees and the grass. It gives me a nice re-charge that I find I need every once in a while.

The idea is that we as a society have lost our connection to the natural world and we need to re-connect with it, to understand our place in the world and that life is not just about making enough money to pay for gas so we can get to work. That life is about more than that. It’s about friends and family. It about enjoying the world around us, to smile and laugh and be happy.

So that’s what I’d like to aspire to in my work. Showcasing the nude in a natural setting and show that the connection between ourselves and nature is a beautiful thing.

" What does bother me is that in this day and age there are people who would cause harm or pain to a person who once participated in the creation of nude art.

There are kids killing each other all over the world. The AIDS epidemic still rages on. Poverty, hunger, homelessness are still rampant all over the world, and my niece who is four years old watches more programs containing violence than love.

What have we done that our world is so screwed up ?

How is it that people see an image containing nudity and scream porn instead of beauty ?

Why is it that people assume that just because a woman poses nude that she is of low morals ?

Or worse yet that she is not worthy of a good quality of life ?


I believe that artists are of a higher mindset. Not that we're better than non-artists but that we are striving to make the world a better and more beautiful place through our art.

Trying to bring meaning into our lives but also putting forth a message of peace, love and understanding into a cold and violent world, is that such a bad thing ?"
