Jeff Hui, by Iris Dassault

You'll find Jeff Hui at Model Mayhem, modelgraphy.

Jeff Hui seen by Iris Dassault :
Jeff Hui is a commercial photographer, based out of Toronto.
Much of his work focuses on fashion and model portfolio building, but he also finds plenty of room for creative work.
Jeff''s creative work is most certainly original. He was born and raised in Hong Kong.

His bio :

Born and raised in Hong Kong, I immigrated to Canada in 1988. My love for photography began in 1994 when I picked up a Pentax 135 camera from my father and spent the next two years capturing high school memories, even though many were out of focus!

Nearly giving up, I thought that I would never make it as a photographer (nobody wants pictures that were out of focus). It wasn’t until one day, I found out that the problem was not my ability to capture clear images, but a broken mirror in my camera that distorted the pictures. In 1997, the same year that Hong Kong would be handed back to Chinese authorities, I rediscovered my potential as a photographer.

I enrolled in the Graphic Design and Printing program at Centennial College in 1998. I landed my first job as a junior designer upon completion in 2001. Within one year of working, I received a promotion to senior designer. Despite the promotions and accelerated career in graphic design, the photographer in me would not rest.

In 2004, I was inspired by the career of a Canadian photographer, Yousuf Karah to reignite my passion for photography. It was time for me to leave the nest and pursue an independent career as a photographer and designer. Finding partners as passionate as myself, I started Fizheye Creative Inc., a studio dedicated to the passion of photography and innovative design.

Of all professions, photography is the easiest and most difficult to learn and master.

Is a successful career in photography due to luck ? Perhaps it is, but the lucky stories of my fellow photographers’ leads me to believe that there has to be something more.

Art Model Silver Suicide

A photograph is a mirror to society at a specific moment in time. Whether it be a moment of joy or the epitome of disaster, the ability to capture and freeze it in time is the fuel that motivates me to as a photographer.

A picture may never be worth a thousand words to me, but might be worth a few. After all, a thousand words may entertain a crowd but a few words can touch the heart and soul of one.

Stephen Thorne, by Iris Dassault

You can find more of Stephen Thorne's work here

By Iris Dassault :

As "Canadian week" continues, I wanted to put the spot light on Ottawa-based photographer Stephen Thorne.

Stephen Thorne is principally a journalist, photojournalist and documentarian of the human condition. After 20 years of covering disasters and war, he decided it was time to look outside of tragedy, and capture the beauty of the female form, in all stages of dress - be it high-couture or in the nude. Stephen's deep appreciation of the 'feminine mystique' and a quest for personal and artistic growth is obvious in his work.

Stephen was awarded with the prestigious Ross Munro Media Award, and currently has a year-long exhibition about Afghanistan, showing at the Canadian War Museum, along side his wartime friend, rancher and documentary film maker Garth Pritchard. Over the last 2 years, he has started to build on his fine art nude and fashion portfolio, resulting in an impressive body of work already.

"I want to develop as a photographer and a human being, and to express my vision and ambition to find beauty, serenity and peace in this lifetime.

I enjoy meeting new people and I deeply appreciate the female sensibility. This adventure in pursuit of beautiful images, a clear vision and refined technical skills is a balm to the sores wrought by tragedy, war, and all the crap that followed. It soothes and feeds the soul" - Stephen Thorne

Waldemar Zagorski, by Iris Dassault

You can find Waldemar Zagorski's work at : his official site, Model Mayhem.

By Iris Dassault :

I was hoping to dedicate the next couple of posts to some really wonderful Canadian photographers that I know, or had the opportunity to work with. This post is dedicated to the work of Waldemar Zagorski, a professional photographer from London, Ontario.

In my opinion, his work has a great amount of class and refinement, which is something that greatly appeals to me as a model, when considering a collaboration.

Frank Piccolo, by Iris Dassault

"Moonkeeper"

Written by Iris Dassault :

Frank Piccolo is a professonal photographer, located in Windsor Ontario. He has over 20 years of experience as a photographer shooting most film formats from 35mm to Large 4"x5" sheet film and Digital as well.

Frank has a soft spot for fine art photography and he executes his work with a level of precision and detail that really impresses. Believe me, as one of his models, I have witnessed his quest for perfection more than once. His technical depth as a photographer is obvious and undeniable, but he probably surprises me the most with his creative ideas and artistic vision.

" Really look. Pay attention to everything around you. Use your eyes AND your brain together, not just your eyes. And once you've looked, analyzed, pondered, considered and ruminated, then go out and shoot a LOT." Olaf Starorypinski

"Jax"

Passionate professional photographer, shooting mostly fashion, fine art, portraiture and editorial, Olaf Starorypinski has been early influenced by the Greek mythology :

"My low key, sculptural treatment of the human body is often an interpretation of that genre."

Friend of Marcus J. Ranum, teacher of Scott Nichol, Olaf is one of the best contemporary photographers.

His compositions are always outstanding and powerful. And we can feel in all his pictures his deep love for light ant lighting, that he perfectly masters, and teaches of course.

"Jen"

Olaf Starorypinski was born in London, England, in 1964, the son of Polish immigrants.

Olaf has always been fascinated with light and he developed an interest in photography and in lighting during his high school years. He has been involved in lighting design for nearly 20 years, including design companies both in the UK and the USA.

Olaf moved to the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, in 1990.

"Cori"

Stylistic influences include David Bailey, Robert Mapplethorpe, Howard Schatz, Herb Ritts, and Helmut Newton. Although the scope of Olaf's subjects is broad, his primary interest has always been people.

Olaf's experience and knowledge of light is the primary influence in his photographic work. Using light to 'sculpt' subjects he creates images from a unique perspective. Critics have described his photographs as "dynamic and sculptural", "works of subtlety and power", and "visual intrigue".

About his models (extract from the interview by Mike Panic) :
" I absolutely believe that a model's personality and talent have a HUGE influence on any image.

If you listen to the world's top photographer's talk about who they like to shoot, you will almost always hear them using words like attitude, charisma, magic, charm, seduction, before they talk about a model's physical attributes.

I've shot dozens of people who are physically stunning and beautiful, but look lifeless and dull in images. Some models can only do one or two looks. To be able to do it all is a very rare talent, and it's why the top models get paid so much."
